Easter - the great exchange

Jesus died - Jesus rose - Jesus is alive

So what's all the fuss about?

For many people Easter (if they celebrate it at all) is about easter eggs, fluffy bunnies and fistfuls of daffodils, none of which figure in the original story. The way the Bible re-tells the events is systematic and detailed and was clearly written by people who were actually there to witness it. All four gospels (the four accounts of Jesus life, complied by different authors) tell us essentially the same set of events and attach to them the same meaning.

Jesus was arrested and tried. This trial place in various location as Jesus was shunted from one court to another. False witnesses were pitted against him and he was eventually convicted, not on the strength of the evidence, but at the urgings of a violent crowd baying for blood.

Jesus died. In fact he was executed by crucifixion, one of the most brutal forms of torture ever devised by mankind. He had already predicted this would happen but his disciples (followers) found this almost impossible to believe.

Jesus rose again. At this point his disciples just couldn't believe their eyes and ears. There he was, standing as large as life in front of them. And if we find it difficult to comprehend with our sceptical way of looking at life, so did they. Yet time and again he appeared to different people in different places saying the many of the same things and it was this experience that transformed their lives.

and still does today

These are the facts and behind them is a greater reality ...

Easter Events

Good Friday

10.30am - 11.30 am. A service where you will discover more about Jesus' death and its significance for us today. You will hear the story from its original source documents in the Bible (in English of course!) and share something of the pathos of this tragic moment in the disciple's lives.

Easter Sunday morning

9.30 am is the time of the Celebration service where we will be baptising several people. At this service you will hear the story of the first Easter and hear Ian White, in his characteristically engaging way, unpack the story and it's meaning.

11.15 am is the time of the Reflections service where you will be able to reflect on the wonder of Easter. At this service you will again hear the story of the first Easter and hear Ian White unpack it and give you a chance to think about it for yourself.

You're welcome at any of these events and if you have any questions about them you can
