Emma McPhail - Assistant Minister

Emma joined the team in May 2017, moving to Eastbourne from Newquay in Cornwall. Emma became a Christian at the age of 9, during a Kids Holiday Club at Meredith Road Baptist Church, in Coventry. A couple of years later she was powerfully touched by the Holy Spirit and felt a call to ministry when she grew up. Her family moved to Newquay in 1988 where she started a Christian Union at her school and enjoyed summer beach outreaches with YWAM.

At 18 Emma went to Cardiff University to study Philosophy, Religion and Language and Communication, but quickly felt a call to deeper Bible study and ministry training. The following academic year, she began studies at Mattersey Hall Bible College, near Doncaster, graduating with a BA (Hons) in Biblical Theology from Sheffield University and a Diploma in Christian Ministry with Distinction. Working as a Youth Pastor she continued studying and gained a MA in Pentecostal/ Charismatic Studies. She then turned to teaching, getting a PGCE from the University of Gloucestershire and becoming a teacher of Religious Studies, Ethics and Philosophy up to A-level.

Whilst teaching part-time, Emma began her missionary journeys to Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Australia and she became Co-leader of Wadebridge Christian Centre for 4 years. Her passion to build the church was evident and her preaching and teaching flourished there. She also took teams on short term missions to Burkina Faso, India, Nepal and the Philippines. In 2007 she moved to New Zealand for 3 years, equipping university students to lead a campus based Presbyterian Cafe-style church.

Returning to the UK in 2010, Emma worked in the travel industry as a New Zealand Specialist, continued in short term missions and set up her own counselling practice, “Breakthrough Counselling Services - until Victoria Baptist caught her attention! Her passion lies in Bible teaching with practical life application, outreach and discipleship.

Having lived mostly by the sea, Emma's hobbies include swimming, kayaking, snorkelling and body boarding, as well as more sedate artistic activities, such as painting, cross-stitch and other crafts. Emma also greatly enjoys travelling and beach holidays somewhere warm whenever possible. She shares a house with her Mum and dotes on her 2 ridiculously cute Cairn Terriers, Daisy and Dusty!
