Amy

Hi my name is Amy, I’m 25, I was born in Zimbabwe and moved to England about 10 years ago. I spent a lot of my childhood around Christians and there were times when I reached out to God when I was having a hard time but unfortunately my faith never lasted and as soon as the difficult time had passed, I went back to feeling that I knew best.

I’d said the words that I wanted to be a Christian many times over, never knowing what it really meant and not committing to it long term. Then, in August last year, after the breakup of a relationship, I turned to God once more, only this time, it was different. I felt renewed, closer to God than I ever had done before, and He provided for me at a difficult time. Then I heard that there was a Christianity Explored course being run through church and I felt like God was encouraging me to take the next step. The course helped me to get to know Jesus better, and also to fully realise the sacrifice God made for us by giving His only Son to die for our sins, simply because He loved us that much. It felt like a revelation, to truly understand God’s grace, and as soon as I began to realise how important that was, I knew then that I wanted to spend the rest of my life in a relationship with Christ.

Being a Christian brings me peace and joy every day, I have a Father, protector and best friend with me all the time. I don’t worry so much about tomorrow anymore because I know I can trust in God to guide me and provide for me. When sad things happen, He comforts me, when good things happen, I am thankful to Him and all the time in between, I feel loved by Him. I’ve changed since having Christ in my life, because feeling the way I do brings me so much peace, I want to share that with the people in my life, to set an example of how much better life can be if you’re living in a relationship with Christ, I’m not as easily angered and frustrated, I’m calmer, more patient and more forgiving. Life is very different now, so much better, and I never want to give up this feeling.

That’s why I’ve made the decision to by baptised today, I want to publicly declare that I have found Jesus, that I want to live every day being obedient to Him, and I appreciate what God did for me when he sent Jesus to die for my sins. The Bible tells us that we should be baptised and, just as Jesus was, I want to follow in His footsteps and tell the world what He has done for me. He isn’t just the beginning and the end, He is everything in between, and I want Him to be at the centre of my life.
