I have always considered myself to be a Christian from as long as I can remember. I did all the basics. I went to church whenever my mom asked me to or I was feeling low or when I had problems in my life. I always tried to be good to others, no love involved and whoever I felt I did not want to be nice to, I just avoided them. My way of avoiding sin!

I came to this country 13 years ago. Being young and excited, I quickly got sucked into different aspects of sinful nature with a mentality that I was being adventurous and modern. I still occasionally went to church but my spiritual life, which I used to reluctantly give a 1% and my day-to-day life which got an undivided 99%, were so separate.

Three years ago, I went through a very hard time at work. I became angry, bitter and, on occasions, twisted thus affecting my home life and making things worse at work. I worked with one Christian lady called Sakhile. She was around the same age as me, going through similar things at work as I was experiencing, but she was always very cheerful and happy. It amazed me and made me ask why. A few weeks after, I had an opportunity of working on the same shift as her. We spent all night talking. As the hours ticked by, I gradually realised how much God was involved in her general life. I really admired it and wanted it for myself, but I did not know where to start as my knowledge of the Bible was so poor. I just asked God to lead me.

It’s been a gradual process. Forces of habits are hard to overcome but I can gladly say since my spiritual awakening three years ago, my relationship with my Lord and Saviour has just grown in strength. My understanding of his word is such that I know I now live in his word. In the period since, I asked Jesus to quench my thirst. I have had miracles and signs that confirm the presence of the Lord in my life. I do not toil for my needs. God has been providing. People who see me would think I am on my own with my children and I have frequently heard the phrase, “Oh, they must be a handful” but what people don’t realise instantly is that God has provided me with massive hands, big enough to hold three kids and myself by surrounding me with loving friends and leading me to fellowship in a church where Agape is a living word, an experience which has made by journey in Christ ever more enjoyable. Thank you!
