Core Values

What lies at the very heart of Victoria? What core values define who we are and why we do the things we engage in? In this series of Sunday morning talks the teaching team want to define as clearly as we know how the vision that drives the church. These core values are as profound as they are practical. They are rooted in the Bible and yet when they are worked out in everyday life we discover ourselves becoming more like Jesus Christ.

These are six core values that define what Victoria is about and the atmosphere we are seeking to create in the church.

1Grace - God saves

We do this so we know him well.

Date: 02/11/2014 (Celebration & Reflections)

We desire Victoria to be a place where God's grace is felt and modelled, a place where people regularly make commitments to Christ and then actively grow to become lore like him. This is the essence of discipleship and Jesus commanded us to create. We desire it to be a place where it is natural to be spiritual and spiritual to be natural and where people do not need to put on a mask or exercise pretence.

God's grace extends to every type of person and we want ours to as well. We want to accept people just as they are while stimulating them to be more like Jesus Christ in their attitudes, choices and behaviour.

1 extra"I will build my church"

Jesus said he would build his church but what does that look like?

Date: 9/11/2014 (Reflections only)

The church is God's way of reaching and rescuing mankind. Jesus came to bring in the kingdom of God and the church is his chosen method of doing that today. It is amazing to realise that He uses ordinary people like us to do an extraordinary task. In this talk we will look at what the church is, why God loves it so much and how it grows.

2Growth - God strengthens

We do this so we're strong

Date: 16/11/2014 (Celebration & Reflections)

We desire Victoria to be a place where spiritual growth is the norm and where people encourage one another to greater Christ-likeness. This will mean that we engage in both encouragement and admonishing in order to help each member model his or her life on Jesus Christ. We desire to prize character above task!

In the same way that habits mark out effective people, so they mark out Christ-following people. So what kind of habits that we observe in growing Christians? We desire to develop these three at least

  • Consistent feeding on God's word. This is the foundation of all Christian growth as the Bible is the source of our teaching and lifestyle. Therefore we desire to encourage every person in Victoria's orbit to read the Bible regularly and absorb its message

  • Consistent worship of God's person. Worshipping God informs the mind and inspires the heart to be devoted to him. Wholehearted and honest worship is what our Heavenly Father seeks in people who worship him. While we recognise that worship is not only what happens on Sundays, we have a particular focus on the weekend events which we seek to present with excellence and relevance. For this reason we design our worship services to provide the widest variety of expression so that our ministry can reach the diverse congregation of which Victoria is comprised.

  • Consistent prayer at God's throne. Prayer comes in many guises and we encourage our people to pray in the solitude of their own devotional lives, in the groups that are part of the church and in the main worship services themselves. Prayer is often the driving force behind spiritual growth and that is why we encourage our people to 'pray in the Spirit on all occasions' (Ephesians 6:18).

3Groups - God gathers

We do this so we're not alone

Date: 23/11/2014 (Celebration & Reflections)

We desire Victoria to be a place where people can engage in small groups with the aim of walking with God together. We see the small group experience (in various forms) as of equal importance with the larger worship or celebration meetings. We desire to create groups where we can know and be known, love and be loved, celebrate and be celebrated by a small number of other people. This is eyeball to eyeball walking with God as much as it is eyeball to eyeball fellowship with other Christ-followers

4Gifts - God equips

We do this so we can make a difference

Date: 30/11/2014 (5th Sunday)

We desire Victoria to be a a place where every believer can discover and use their spiritual gifts. We believe that God invests natural and supernatural gifts in his people so we therefore have a duty to discover and use these. Throughout the Bible and subsequent history periods of greatest spiritual advance have been characterised by people using their God-given abilities to further the work of the Kingdom. We desire Victoria should be a place where that happens intentionally, rather than by accident. So we desire to systematically discover the 'best fit' area of service for each person regardless of age, race, background or spiritual maturity.

5Generosity - God provides

We do this so we can live by different priorities

Date: 07/12/2014 (Celebration & Reflections)

We desire Victoria to be a place where we give generously to the Lords work. Our money is used to support God's work both inside the immediate orbit of Victoria as well as for the support of Christian work world-wide. The church's income should be tithed as an absolute minimum to external support of ministries outside the immediate operation of our church. Giving our money as generously as we can - and many of us believe in tithing our income, shows that we do not regard everything we own or earn as our sole possession. We desire to make our personal resources available to God's work.

We also desire Victoria to be a place where we give our time to Christian service. We desire the church to be place where every person's contribution is seen to be advancing the Kingdom of God, whatever role they have on the team.

We also desire Victoria to be a place where we use our skills for God's work. We believe that the unique combination of skills and abilities that each of us carry can be used to extend and enhance the Kingdom of God.

6Gospel - God sends

We do this so we can make an impact

Date: 21/12/2014 (Celebration & Reflections)

A place where we equip one another to communicate the gospel to our society in the workplace by teaching people how to share their faith. Faith sharing extends into areas beyond the evangelistic moment of inviting another person to follow Christ. We want to equip people to live for Christ in every area of their lives and share their faith with actions as well as words.
